About Raven Danes

Raven Danes is located in McNeal, Arizona.  We live on 40 acres with a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains, and the dogs have plenty of room to stretch their legs!

I started raising Great Danes in 1997, when my first blue dane, Dana started a love for the breed.  I did extensive research on the breed and finally felt I was ready to have my first litter.  What an experience!  She had ten live puppies and when it was all over i don't know who was more exhausted, me or her!  But breeding isn't for everyone.  It has its fair share of heartbreaks as well.  Long nights of whelping, feeding orphaned puppies, caring for mom, can all take its toll on you!  But there are the rewards too.  Watching the little ones grow, mom clean up after them, the fat bellies after their first taste of real food!  And knowing that with each litter you strive to better the breed for future generations.

I breed blue & black, and also harlequin and its related colors.  I prefer the European look of the dane, so my dogs and pups tend to be somewhat heavier with more bone and mass. Temperament is absolutely first on my list, followed by health and then conformation.  Having the perfect show dog is all fair and well, but if it bites a child and then goes down with hip dysplasia, was it really the perfect dog?
